From Sagarmatha to Antalya: Nepal’s Preparation and Priorities for COP31?
Next week, from 9 to 20 November 2026, delegates from 197 countries will gather in Antalya, Türkiye, for the 31st UN Climate Change Conference (COP31). For Nepal, this COP carries unusual weight. Two catastrophic floods, along the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli corridor in August and the Budhi Gandaki in October, have shown the fragility of Nepal’s mountain ecosystems and their growing exposure to climate change. The scale of destruction exceeds the capacity of the country to manage alone and makes the need for urgent international support clear to deal with climate impacts. It also exposes how far current adaptation measures fall short.
